Axell from the inside – Manager Administration

No company would exist without its dedicated employees. In the series of new publications, we will introduce you to the characters of those who form the Axell Group family. In the next installment of our texts, “Axell from the inside”, meet Manager Administration Monika Sokalla.

I remember the first day at work and the smile of Hanna Rutkowska, who greeted me then. Since that time Poland has changed, our company has changed, we have changed. New technologies and information systems have emerged, motorways were built, supply chains have evolved to take on other forms in the case of food and consumer goods. There were new logistic companies, warehouses sprung up like mushrooms. Everything went ahead — we too! A small company from the tiny town of Rakoniewice steadily moved ahead.

I always felt a part of something cool. I saw the company was growing and I had a small stake in it. To this day, it brings great satisfaction, especially if we see that the boss is satisfied and sees our commitment.

One of the biggest challenges I have faced was to build the Accounting Department from scratch, which after half a year began to meet its goals. The company’s biggest asset are the people I employed at that time, most of whom still work with us today. I feel great trust and respect for them. I am happy that my work was also the place where I made many amazing friendships. I am surrounded by people with whom I can share my professional and personal successes. I would also like to thank those who have not worked with us yet but have been co-authors of many of our successes. I am very grateful to the company for giving me the opportunity to discover and work with them.

Funny story: An event that was deeply rooted in my memory was a jubilee trip to the Netherlands. The team-building already begun on the bus. We spent a great time at the Efteling Amusement Park, where we laughed so much it made my cheeks hurt. Each of us for a moment felt like a carefree child. After all-day madness, we put on our evening dresses and went to the Gala. There were dances, wine and singing! Initially the dance floor was dominated the crew from Poland, but after some time they were also joined by the Dutch, who had fun with us until dawn.

Monika Sokalla – Manager Administration, has been with the company for 17 years. Privately, a mother of two and a passionate gardener.

“I have been part of the company since its beginnings 20 years ago. I appreciate that every day I can face new challenges because I can grow, gain new knowledge and valuable skills”.

“Looking from the perspective of past two decades, the biggest change I have noticed has to do with the customer needs. There is increased demand for co-packing services, creation of promotional kits, and labeling. Also, a range of services dedicated to ecommerce have emerged. The courier market has grown significantly. By anticipating the forthcoming changes, we have invested early on in the development of information and communication technologies. We implemented automated identification techniques so we were able to offer our customers exactly what they needed. We provide our customers with quick access to all the necessary information about their goods, facilitating tracking of shipments at every step of the supply chain”.

“The daily life in Axell is primarily about working with a great team. All the trips we’ve made together, and the events and outings we organized are full of great memories that will stay with me for years”.

Funny memory: It was a long time ago… Stock levels used to be stored in Excel files, and issue documents were written in Word. One day late at night, with rain and strong wind behind the windows, we all worked hard in the warehouse to make it on time. Someone joked that we lacked hands to work and would use some help from Michał Drzymała*. Then the light went out, the clocks stopped, and a knock at the door was heard. We froze. Everyone was dead scared. We wanted it, we got it. Drzymała came to visit us! The officers were so scared that, for the first time, they did not check all the door seals. Each of us quickly packed their belongings and drove home. As it later turned out, it was just temporary power outage, and the door knocked on the wind. Today we remember it with smile on our faces, but this evening  we were not  laughing at all.

Renata Drgas-Sinska – Project Manager, has been with the company for 20 years. Privately a passionate traveler who loves discovering new places on the map of Poland and exploring interesting new tastes in her own kitchen.

Axell from the inside – Senior Shift Leader

No company would exist without its dedicated employees. In the series of new publications, we will introduce you to the characters of those who form the Axell Group family. In the second installment of our texts, “Axell from the inside”, meet the Senior Shift Leader – Sławomir Rzepa.

My story is closely related to the history of Axell Logistics. I have been working for the company since its first days, which is already over 20 years. At first, my role was to support the crew while stockpiling the warehouse in times when number of trucks was bigger than usual. I was a „helping hand”. Two hands, in fact. During my subsequent years of work, I went through various positions in the warehouse until I was promoted to the position of Warehouse Manager.

I greatly appreciate the fact that I could work in one company for so many years. But what I value most are the people I work with. We make a really great team. Duh! In fact, I’m not afraid to call them my family. I have known most of them for 20 years and we have been through thick and thin together.

Looking back at our daily life from the perspective of the past two decades, I see one key change. There has been a lot of automation of the warehouse processes.I remember working in a warehouse, writing everything on paper, and the administration would enter our notes into very basic spreadsheets. One technological novelty was pneumatic mail, connecting our warehouse with the office building, which we used to send documents. Today we work with scanners, and the system automatically points to the appropriate storage locations in the warehouse. Changes resulting from the technological advances have shortened the time needed to prepare the goods, and reduced the number of human errors.

I will never forget the early days of Axell Logistics when all of us — warehouse workers, office staff along with their director — rolled their sleeves up and helped to unload our first trucks. Such situations have bonded us together as a tightly-knit, loving and caring team.

Funny story: We’ve always loved to have fun, which is still true after all these big changes. Instead of resting, we would spend time coming up with new pranks and hoaxes. For example, we prepared various „small packages” and sent them by the pneumatic mail (and no, it wasn’t documentation). We also organized a speed contest to check how much time a forklift needed to transport a compact car from the car park to our warehouse. Fortunately, the whole crew has a great sense of humour, and such jokes just let us get to know each other even better.

Sławomir Rzepa – Senior Shift Leader, has been with the company for 20 years. Privately, Sławomir enjoys family cycling trips, reading historical books, and photography.

Axell from the inside – interview with an employee

In the first installment of our texts, “Axell from the inside”, meet the Head of the Axell Logistics Terminal in Skierniewice and Chorzów.

I will probably not be original when I say that what I appreciate most  in my everyday work is the people I work with. The people who surround me are open, enthusiastic, and eager to share their knowledge and experience. They treat every new project as an interesting challenge. Fulfilling your daily duties in the company of such people is a pleasure. Together, we are unstoppable. Creativity, flexibility and commitment allow us to tailor solutions to the needs and expectations of our customers and always achieve our goals.

It is nice to observe how the company is developing and, at the same time, be a part of it. In the past years, we have significantly increased our warehouse space and modernized our warehouses. With investments in hardware and operating systems, we can optimize costs and increase our competitive edge. We implement innovative solutions that allow the integration of the entire supply chain and IT systems to track the delivery process in order to quickly respond to emergency situations.

Funny story: We are a well-knit crew, which allows us to do harmless jokes in relation to one another. I remember perfectly when 10 years ago we were implementing the WMS system and beginning to use the scanners. The warehouse staff started using these devices few people really understood what they can be used for. One day we sent a message to a worker’s scanner: Get to work! The CEO. The timing was perfect as the colleague had just „taken five”. He then walked from one person to another and warned: With scanners, the CEO sees everything we do. It took a lot of time before we got rid of it because it resulted in improved performance, and lots of fun!

Marzena Wach – Head of the Axell Logistics Terminal in Skierniewice and Chorzów who has been with the company for 11 years. A passionate traveler who enjoys outdoor recreation. Yoga, cycling, and running are her favorite leisure activities.
